The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted two watchmen of Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School following an alleged sexual assault involving a special needs student.
The two staff members have also been handed over to the Police to assist with investigations into the incident.
According to the GES, the student, who was on medication, suffered a relapse on the day of the alleged incident and required medical attention.
The Service said it was during this period that the alleged assault occurred.
In a statement issued on Thursday, August 20, 2026, the GES said it had taken immediate administrative action by interdicting the two watchmen while the Police conduct investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Service noted that the findings of the investigations would determine the appropriate sanctions under the GES Code of Conduct and the laws of Ghana.
The GES also urged all staff to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and ensure the safety, dignity and wellbeing of every student.
It stressed that any conduct that threatens the welfare and security of students would not be tolerated.
“Management cautions that the Service will not tolerate any conduct that compromises the safety and wellbeing of students,” the statement said.
The GES assured parents, guardians and the general public that the matter was being treated with the seriousness it deserved.
