Fire outbreak at Frimpomaa Estate, behind Absa Bank at Spintex in the Greater Accra Region, has destroyed about 27 wooden structures.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said the blaze was reported at about 7:30 a.m. and was brought under control by firefighters at 9:22 a.m.
Although the fire caused extensive damage to the wooden structures, firefighters successfully prevented it from spreading to a nearby church, 10 other wooden structures and a storey building.
Acting Regional Operations Officer of the GNFS, DOIII Matthew Kumi, told Citi News that the prompt intervention of personnel helped contain the blaze and avert further destruction.
He urged residents to strengthen fire safety measures in their homes by keeping basic firefighting equipment readily available and ensuring that emergency contacts can be accessed quickly during an incident.
“We should be careful in our various homes and also make sure we have firefighting equipment in our various homes, i.e. fire extinguishers, detectors and also have the GNFS emergency contacts: 192 and 112. We are readily available,” he said.
The GNFS further encouraged residents to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures to minimise the risk of domestic and community fires.
