Aspiring National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko, has pledged to rebuild the party into a strong electoral force ahead of the 2028 general elections.
He said his decision to contest the national chairmanship is driven by the need to restore the party’s strength following its defeat in the 2024 elections.
The former Energy Minister made the remarks after some constituency chairmen picked his nomination forms at the NPP headquarters on Tuesday, August 18.
Boakye Agyarko expressed gratitude to the constituency chairmen who purchased and picked the forms on his behalf, as well as those who accompanied them to the party headquarters.
He said the gesture demonstrated the continued confidence of party grassroots members in his ability to lead the NPP.
“I am indeed humbled by this generous gesture. Truly humbled, it affirms for me the call constituency chairmen made on June 22, 2025, at Longford in Kumasi, when they, in unison, asked me to take up the chairmanship of our party,” he said.
According to him, the party may have suffered an electoral setback, but remains capable of rebuilding and returning to power.
“This party may have gone down, but we are not out, and I'm sure that with the dedication and commitment I see, NPP here we come, we will rise again,” Mr Agyarko said.
He said his primary objective in seeking the chairmanship was to lead the party to victory in the 2028 elections.
The NPP Chairman hopeful said he would focus on rebuilding and rebranding the NPP into a formidable electoral machine capable of supporting its 2028 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
