Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has accused Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie of being part of what he describes as a “grand conspiracy” against his predecessor, Gertrude Araba Asaaba Torkonoo.
According to Mr Afenyo-Markin, the alleged plot was intended to remove Justice Torkonoo from office and pave the way for Justice Baffoe-Bonnie to become Chief Justice.
Speaking on Atinka TV’s Ghana Nie morning show, the Effutu MP claimed that Justice Baffoe-Bonnie and other Supreme Court judges allegedly involved in the matter were aware of the circumstances surrounding Justice Torkonoo’s removal.
“He knows, I know, the Supreme Court judges who conspired against their colleague [all know]. Why should I deny that?” he said.
Mr Afenyo-Markin insisted that the full circumstances surrounding the former Chief Justice’s removal would eventually become known to the public.
He said he remained convinced that the events leading to Justice Torkonoo’s removal would be properly understood when what he described as the “true story” emerged.
The Minority Leader also reiterated his position that a future New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration would restore Justice Torkonoo to the position of Chief Justice.
“I don't see why that woman will not be reinstated when the NPP returns to power,” he said.

That is what I keep talking about, power, power, always power, as if Ghanaians would not vote. Who in his right mind will vote for the NPP? Go and bring Ken Ofori-Atta back and let the NPP give back all their stolen money to the state. This is what you need to do because after 2028, you will still go to the opposition.
