Newly elected Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, has urged constituency executives across the region to strictly adhere to the party’s constitution in the discharge of their duties.
Addressing constituency chairmen at a strategic meeting in Kumasi, Chairman Appiah said strict compliance with the party’s governing rules was essential to promoting discipline, preventing internal conflicts and strengthening the NPP’s organisational structures ahead of future elections.
He stressed that the party’s constitution clearly outlines the responsibilities, powers and functions of each elected executive and must therefore serve as the primary guide for administering the party at the constituency level.
“I urge all of us to become sticklers for our party's constitution and rely on it to administer our respective offices. By doing so, we will effectively root out the indisciplinary tendencies that previously characterized party operations,” Chairman Appiah stated.
He cautioned constituency chairmen against concentrating power in their own offices or interfering with the responsibilities of other elected executives.
According to him, effective party administration requires cooperation among all constituency executives, with each officer allowed to perform the duties assigned under the NPP constitution.
“Allow those elected alongside you as constituency executives to perform their duties freely, without intimidation or unwarranted interference. Together, we can restore total discipline to our party,” he added.
Chairman Appiah said adherence to the party’s constitutional framework would help protect constituency leadership from administrative lapses and unnecessary controversies while promoting greater unity and efficiency.
His comments come as the NPP's Ashanti Regional leadership focuses on strengthening its grassroots structures following the recently concluded constituency and regional executive elections.
The Ashanti Region remains a key electoral base for the NPP, making organisational discipline and grassroots mobilisation critical to the party’s efforts to rebuild ahead of the next general elections.
Constituency leaders pledge support
Responding on behalf of the constituency executives, Manhyia North Constituency Chairman, Kwaku Oppong, expressed appreciation to Chairman Appiah for convening the consultative meeting.
He pledged the commitment of constituency leaders to supporting the new regional administration and implementing its vision, particularly its emphasis on constitutional governance and grassroots organisation.
“We are thankful for this opportunity to meet with our newly elected Regional Chairman and engage with his vision. We are particularly encouraged by his commitment to constitutional governance, and we assure him that this standard will be emulated across all constituencies,” Mr Oppong remarked.
The meeting formed part of efforts by the new Ashanti Regional leadership to engage constituency executives and establish a common approach to party administration, discipline and grassroots mobilisation.
