NaCCA directs schools to stop using unapproved assessment and mock examination materials

The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has directed heads of pre-tertiary schools to immediately stop administering assessment items and mock examinations that have not been vetted and approved by the Council.

The directive follows concerns over the continued use of assessment materials developed by unapproved consortiums, institutions and individuals in some basic schools across the country.

In a statement issued on Saturday, August 8, NaCCA reminded school authorities that it is the statutory body mandated to approve assessment items and tasks for pre-tertiary education in Ghana.

The Council stressed that schools are not permitted to administer externally developed assessment materials unless they have first been vetted and approved by NaCCA.

It has therefore instructed all heads of pre-tertiary institutions to ensure strict compliance with the directive with immediate effect.

According to NaCCA, the measure is aimed at ensuring that assessment materials administered in schools meet the required standards and remain aligned with the approved curriculum.

The Council further warned that schools that procure, administer or facilitate the use of unapproved assessment materials could face appropriate regulatory sanctions.

NaCCA has consequently urged school authorities to verify that all assessment materials used in their institutions have undergone the required approval process before they are administered to students.
