South Dayi Member of Parliament (MP) Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has expressed confidence that newly appointed Majority Leader James Agalga will eventually rise to become Speaker of Parliament.
Speaking on TV3’s The Key Points, Mr Dafeamekpor described the Builsa North MP as an accomplished parliamentarian with a strong command of parliamentary procedure and the law.
According to him, Mr Agalga is among the MPs whose interventions on the floor naturally attract the attention of colleagues because of the depth and clarity of his contributions.
“There are some people who, when they speak, you just have to listen. And James is one such person. He has a voice that, anytime he’s on his feet on the floor, you are minded to listen to him,” he said.
Mr Dafeamekpor further praised Mr Agalga as “solid on procedure, solid on the law”, adding that he possesses strong analytical and communication skills.
He said the Majority Caucus had benefited significantly from Mr Agalga’s experience and valued his guidance in managing its affairs.
“So, we relish working with him and having him provide guidance in terms of how we manage the caucus,” he said.
The South Dayi MP subsequently predicted that Mr Agalga would, in due course, lead Parliament as Speaker.
“Everybody is congratulating him. We all know that it’s just a matter of time before he leads the House,” he said.
Mr Dafeamekpor also commended Mr Agalga for consistently bringing fresh perspectives to parliamentary debates and remaining composed during proceedings.
“I’ve met him in Parliament, and he’s never had a bad day in Parliament. I have never recalled James being on his feet and flustered. He always brings perspectives that you may not have considered before,” he said.
Mr Agalga was appointed Majority Leader following the resignation of Mahama Ayariga from the position after President John Dramani Mahama nominated him for a Cabinet appointment.
