The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of candidates who sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for private candidates.

In a statement, the Council said the results have been uploaded to its official website for candidates to access online.

According to WAEC, 2,987 candidates—made up of 1,618 males and 1,369 females from all regions—registered for the examination, which was conducted at centres in selected regional capitals. A total of 101 candidates were absent.

On examination malpractice, WAEC disclosed that the results of nine candidates have been withheld for further scrutiny after suspected collusion was detected during the marking process.

The Council has directed affected candidates to visit its irregularities and investigations platform and click on the “withheld/cancelled” button on the homepage. The platform will redirect them to a page detailing the reasons for the action and the next steps to follow.

WAEC expressed appreciation to all stakeholders who contributed to the successful conduct of the examination and the release of the results.

“The Council is grateful to all who in diverse ways helped in the successful conduct of the examination and release of results,” said John K. Kapi, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC.
