The current government under President John Mahama has taken a decisive and uncompromising stance against corruption. This renewed commitment to accountability has restored confidence among many Ghanaians who witnessed how deeply corruption affected the nation in previous years.
The impact of corruption under the NPP government was severe: widespread financial mismanagement, weakened institutions, and economic instability that touched every sector of national life. It is within this context that the reaction of the opposition NPP has become troubling.
Instead of supporting the national fight against corruption, they have launched accusations against the ruling government, claiming that the prosecution of certain individuals is politically motivated. They argue that the government seeks to arrest and imprison NPP politicians.
However, this argument raises a fundamental question: If a political party resists accountability, what exactly do they seek power for? The significance of this article is to respond to the recent threats issued by the opposition NPP, threats that “the table will turn” and that they will jail NDC politicians if they return to power.
These statements, from your viewpoint, are not only empty but senseless. After the public loss of trust, many Ghanaians no longer see the NPP as a credible alternative. Even those with limited education understand that governance must be rooted in accountability, not revenge.
What is most striking is that the opposition has not spent a single day addressing how Ghana’s economy, infrastructure, and financial institutions were derailed under their leadership. They have not explained the alleged corruption, money laundering, or state capture that weakened the nation.
Instead, they focus on threats, a strategy that does not resonate with a population that wants justice, stability, and progress. Ghanaians overwhelmingly support the fight against corruption. They want institutions strengthened, not weakened, and they want accountability, not intimidation.
Therefore, the opposition must stop issuing threats of revenge. Ghana is moving forward, and the people will not support any political agenda built on fear or retaliation. A nation rises when truth is defended and accountability is embraced.
Power without integrity destroys, but leadership rooted in justice builds a future that generations can trust. Let those who seek authority remember: Ghana’s progress will never again be sacrificed for the comfort of those who fear the truth.
