Popular media personality Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, has cut the sod for the construction of an ultra-modern Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) office at Gomoa Denkyira in the Central Region.

The facility, when completed, will be the first DVLA office to serve the entire Gomoa enclave and is expected to improve access to licensing services for residents.

The project is aimed at bringing DVLA services closer to the people, eliminating the need for residents to travel to Accra or Cape Coast to obtain driver's licences and other related services.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony on Saturday, July 18, 2026, Captain Smart said many residents have had to incur significant transportation and accommodation costs, including spending nights in Accra or Cape Coast, just to complete the licensing process.

Captain Smart, who is seeking to become the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the constituency, also outlined several development initiatives he intends to pursue in the area.

He disclosed that construction materials, including hundreds of bags of cement and several tonnes of iron rods, had already been mobilised for the construction of a clinic at Gomoa Mankessim.

He further announced plans to build another health facility at Gomoa Abura, which he said would be named the Ama Beenyiwa Memorial Clinic in honour of the constituency's first female Member of Parliament.

“This project is dear to my heart,” he said. “It saddens me that this community has gone without a clinic for so long. Naming it after our first female MP will honour her legacy and inspire other women to serve their people well.”

Captain Smart expressed appreciation to the chiefs and people of Gomoa Denkyira for the warm reception and the successful organisation of the ceremony.

“I am truly sobered to witness this large crowd, as if we were gathered for the grand durbar of our festival,” he said, pledging to work diligently for the development of the constituency.

The Odikro of Gomoa Denkyira, Odiasempa Nana Yaw Tawiah, commended Captain Smart for initiating major development projects despite not holding public office.

He described the sod-cutting ceremony as unprecedented in the constituency and appealed to delegates of the NDC to consider electing Captain Smart as the party's parliamentary candidate.

“What has happened here today has never happened before in this constituency,” Nana Tawiah said. “I entreat all delegates gathered here to consider making him your leader.”

Former parliamentary aspirant Fareed Amoah also endorsed Captain Smart, describing him as a visionary leader capable of driving development in the constituency.

He urged party members and constituents to unite behind Captain Smart to help accelerate the area's socio-economic development.
