The Board Chairman of GCB Bank PLC, Professor Joshua Alabi, has thrown his weight behind Ghana's FIFA World Cup campaign by visiting the Black Stars camp ahead of their decisive Group L encounter against Croatia.
During the visit, Professor Alabi announced a winning bonus of US$100,000 for the Black Stars should they defeat Croatia on Saturday, June 27, describing the incentive as a demonstration of confidence in the team's ability to make the nation proud.
The gesture comes as Ghana prepares for one of its most important matches of the tournament. The Black Stars opened their World Cup campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Panama before holding tournament favourites England to a goalless draw. Those results have left Ghana in a strong position heading into the final group game against Croatia, with qualification to the Round of 32 still within reach.
Professor Alabi, who currently serves as the Board Chairman of GCB Bank PLC, is no stranger to Ghana football. Beyond his distinguished career in academia, public service and corporate leadership, he previously served as Coordinator of the Black Stars, General Secretary of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), and a member of the Ghana Football Association Management Board. His long-standing involvement in football administration has made him a respected figure within Ghanaian football circles.
Earlier this year, GCB Bank, under Professor Alabi's leadership, donated GH¢5 million to support the Black Stars' preparations for the FIFA World Cup, reaffirming the bank's commitment to sports development and national unity.
Responding on behalf of the players, Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew expressed appreciation for the visit and the generous pledge, assuring Professor Alabi and Ghanaians that the team remains fully focused on the task ahead.
According to Ayew, the atmosphere within the camp is positive, with the players highly motivated and determined to secure victory against Croatia.
"The team is in high spirits, and we are ready to give everything on the pitch. We know what this match means to Ghana, and we will fight to make the nation proud," the captain said.
A victory over Croatia would significantly strengthen Ghana's chances of advancing to the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, continuing an impressive campaign that has seen the Black Stars display discipline, resilience and defensive solidity against quality opposition.
