NPP gives disciplinary committee two weeks to probe petitions against Kennedy Agyapong over Afari Military Hospital comments

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has directed its National Disciplinary Committee to investigate within two weeks petitions filed against former Assin Central MP and former presidential aspirant, Kennedy Agyapong.

The party’s National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, said the National Executive Committee (NEC) received several petitions and subsequently referred them to the disciplinary committee in line with the party’s constitution and internal procedures.

He explained that the National Council endorsed the decision and tasked the committee, chaired by former Roads Minister Kwasi Amoako-Atta, to complete its work within the stipulated two-week period.

According to him, the committee will submit its findings to the National Council, which will then take a final decision on the matter, including any sanctions it may deem appropriate.

Nana Boakye declined to speculate on the possible outcome of the probe, stressing that it would be improper to pre-empt the work of the committee.

“The right constitutional and procedural process is being followed,” he said on Joy News, adding that the National Council, as the party’s second-highest decision-making body, will review the report before arriving at a final determination.

The move comes amid growing tensions within the NPP, which were visible during a recent National Executive Committee meeting held on Thursday.

Outside the meeting venue, clashes reportedly broke out among party supporters, with some demonstrators chanting “Ken Must Go,” in apparent reference to Kennedy Agyapong.

The unrest is believed to stem from recent comments by the former presidential aspirant, who criticised the party leadership over the alleged failure to operationalise the Afari Military Hospital.

The disciplinary committee is expected to present its report to the National Council within two weeks.
