The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, has confirmed that former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, is currently in custody serving her 10-year jail term.
Ms. Tamakloe-Attionu was convicted in absentia by the Accra High Court in April 2024 on multiple counts, including stealing, causing financial loss to the state, money laundering and procurement-related offences.
She was extradited from the United States on June 9, 2026, after losing a legal battle against her removal and was expected to begin serving her sentence in Ghana.
Following her return, public scrutiny over her whereabouts, particularly the exact prison facility where she is being held, intensified amid claims that she had been allowed to remain at home instead of serving her sentence.
However, speaking on Accra-based JoyNews' PM programme on Wednesday, June 24, the Interior Minister dismissed the claims and maintained that the former MASLOC boss has remained in lawful custody since her arrival.
"Certainly, she never, never went to any private place. From the day she came, she had been with us, and she's with us, and she's serving her time," Mr. Muntaka said.
The Minister explained that prison authorities do not publicly disclose the exact locations of inmates, especially high-profile convicts, citing security concerns.
According to him, persons seeking to visit Ms. Tamakloe-Attionu must apply through the Ghana Prisons Service and obtain the inmate's consent before any visit can be granted.
"If you want to visit her, you can write to the prison service, they will talk to her. If she's interested in you coming, she will let you come," he stated.
