Two people who lost their lives in a building collapse caused by heavy rains in Cape Coast South have been laid to rest, while the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has stepped up efforts to prevent similar incidents.
The victims, 27-year-old Rukaya Issah and three-year-old Hanson Ato Mensah, were buried on Saturday, June 20, after they died when torrential rains on Friday triggered the collapse of buildings in parts of Cape Coast South.
A delegation from NADMO's Central Regional Office, led by Regional Director CDCO Kwesi Dawood Mensah, joined grieving families, friends, and community members to pay their final respects and offer support during the burial ceremonies.
The tragedy has struck particularly close to home for NADMO, as Dominic Mensah, the father of the deceased child, serves as a Disaster Volunteer with the organisation. Officials extended their condolences and prayers to him and all families affected by the disaster.
Following the incident, NADMO has announced plans to collaborate with local authorities and structural engineers to strengthen building safety measures across the area.
The organisation said it would intensify inspections of buildings and ensure that structurally unsafe facilities are identified and demolished to avert future disasters and protect lives and property.
