Ghana School of Law announces GHS14,943 for Pre-Bar Course and GHS22,415 Part I law training programme

The Ghana School of Law has announced the approved fees for the newly introduced Pre-Bar Course, as well as that of part one of its professional programmes.

The decision comes in the wake of the implementation of the Legal Education Act, 2026 (Act 1170), which has introduced a decentralised system of accredited law faculties.

Under the new arrangement, LLB graduates are required to undergo a one-year Pre-Bar Course before proceeding to the Law Practice Training stage.

In a circular dated June 17, the Director of Legal Education, Professor Raymond A. Atuguba, said the fee structure followed consultations with key stakeholders in the justice sector.

He explained that the new Pre-Bar Course fee had been calculated to ensure fairness and prevent financial disadvantage to students affected by the reforms.

“Having regard to the structure of the Pre-Bar Course and the need to ensure that students are not financially disadvantaged by the ongoing reforms in legal education, it has been proposed that the fee for the Pre-Bar Course… be set at a prorated fee of GHS 14,943.00 for the academic year,” he stated.

According to the GSL, the figure serves as a harmonised benchmark across all institutions offering the programme, ensuring consistency and affordability.

The statement further indicated that institutions may apply for exemptions where justified, subject to approval by the Council for Legal Education and Training (CLET).

It added that such requests would be assessed on a case-by-case basis to accommodate specific institutional needs.

Meanwhile, the current approved fee for Part I of the Ghana School of Law professional law training programme is GHS 22,415.00 for six (6) subjects which is set by legislation.
