The Alagumgube Association has called on the management of the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital to urgently address a number of challenges affecting patient care and service delivery at the facility.
The call follows extensive engagement and interaction with patients, hospital staff, and relatives who frequently visit the hospital. According to the Association, the concerns raised by the public require immediate attention to improve healthcare services and protect lives.
One of the major concerns is the difficulty patients face in accessing their medical folders at the Records Department. Patients often spend long hours waiting for their folders before receiving medical attention. The situation is reportedly worsened by inadequate staffing, with only a few officers, and sometimes a single staff member, attending to the needs of a large number of clients.
The Association is equally worried about conditions at the Emergency Unit. While acknowledging the dedication and sacrifices of many health professionals, some patients and relatives have complained about delays in handling emergency cases. Families are often left distressed when critically ill patients are waiting for urgent attention while explanations relating to network challenges and system failures continue to delay essential services.
Another area of concern is the Accounts Department, where delays in the payment process have been reported. Patients and their relatives indicate that long queues and slow processing of bills sometimes delay access to treatment and medication.
Speaking on the matter, Alagumgube Association member, Aloysius Atibila, noted that the concerns are not intended to undermine the efforts of hardworking healthcare professionals but rather to advocate for improvements that will benefit both staff and patients.
According to him, healthcare delivery should be built on efficiency, compassion, and timely response, especially in a regional referral hospital that serves thousands of people across the Upper East Region and beyond.
The Association is therefore calling on hospital management to strengthen staffing at critical departments, improve emergency response mechanisms, enhance supervision, and modernize operational systems to reduce delays and improve patient experience.
Alagumgube Association believes that quality healthcare is a fundamental right and that every patient deserves prompt, respectful, and professional treatment. The Association further urges all stakeholders, including health authorities, civil society organizations, and community leaders, to support efforts aimed at improving healthcare delivery at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital.
As the demand for quality healthcare continues to increase, the Association maintains that urgent reforms at the facility will not only save lives but also restore public confidence in one of the most important healthcare institutions in the Upper East Region.
