Former Deputy Attorney General Alfred Tuah-Yeboah has called for the impartial implementation of the government's Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) anti-corruption initiative.
According to him, ORAL, which was introduced by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to retrieve alleged stolen state assets and prosecute corruption-related offences, can only succeed if it targets wrongdoing across the political divide.
Speaking on Accra-based JoyNews on Tuesday, June 16, Tuah-Yeboah accused the Attorney General's Department of exhibiting double standards by pursuing some cases while discontinuing others involving individuals affiliated with the governing party.
“If actually we want ORAL to succeed, ORAL must be colour blind. ORAL should be applied to all of us, irrespective of political persuasions,” he said.
He cautioned that failure to enforce the initiative fairly would strengthen perceptions that it is being used for partisan purposes rather than genuine accountability.
“But if we fail to do that, then ORAL is nothing more but a political witch hunt,” he added.
Mr. Tuah-Yeboah also raised concerns about the status of former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu following her extradition from the United States to Ghana to serve a 10-year prison sentence.
He questioned the lack of public information regarding her current place of custody and urged state authorities to provide clarity on the matter.
The former Deputy Attorney General further argued that the state has a responsibility to vigorously defend the conviction if appeals are filed, stressing that the case could become a key test of government's commitment to the anti-corruption agenda.
He stressed that while every convicted person has the right to appeal, any attempt to undermine the judicial process through extrajudicial means would erode public confidence in the fight against corruption.
