The Management of Kumasi Wesley Girls’ High School in the Ashanti Region has commended students for taking the initiative to repair a dilapidated dormitory block, creating additional accommodation space on campus.

The project, led by the Students Representative Council (SRC), involved reroofing and repainting the structure ahead of the school’s 2026 graduation ceremony. The dormitory had previously become unusable after a rainstorm damaged its roof.

According to the Headmistress, Mrs Lovia Amankwaa, the facility was originally constructed under the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), but the storm left it severely damaged, forcing the school to keep it out of use.

She made the remarks during the graduation and thanksgiving service for the 2026 year group on Sunday, June 15, 2026.

Mrs Amankwaa explained that despite several appeals to the relevant authorities for support, it was the students themselves who stepped in to restore the facility.

“We had sent letters to authorities, but the students stepped forward and contributed willingly to support,” she said.

She noted that the SRC fully funded and supervised the rehabilitation work, making the dormitory block functional once again for boarding students.

The school’s annual thanksgiving and send-off ceremony brought together staff, students, parents, and stakeholders to thank God for guidance and protection throughout the academic year. It also served as a moment of reflection and encouragement for final-year students as they prepare for the next stage of their education.

The Headmistress also praised government, parents, teachers, non-teaching staff, and partners for their continued support, saying their contributions have been key to shaping the students’ academic success.

She encouraged the graduating class to remain focused and determined as they pursue higher education.

“With perseverance and consistency, the students can achieve their aspirations,” she said, wishing them well in their future endeavours.
