The Akim Oda Divisional Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the attempted theft of cocoa beans from a broken-down truck at Akim Asuboa in the Asene Manso Akroso District of the Eastern Region.
The suspect, identified as Kwasi Brako, popularly known as Anas, was apprehended following investigations into the incident, which involved the alleged theft of cocoa beans from a truck transporting the commodity to the Tema Port.
According to police, the MAN diesel truck with registration number AS 3650-S was carrying sacks of cocoa beans to Tema for export when it developed a mechanical fault at Akim Asuboa.
While the driver awaited repairs, a group of young men allegedly descended on the vehicle and began removing sacks of cocoa beans.
Police said the suspects fled into nearby bushes upon the arrival of a patrol team that responded to the scene.
Subsequent investigations led to the identification and arrest of Kwasi Brako at his hideout.
The police indicated that the suspect sustained injuries after allegedly resisting arrest and attempting to escape from lawful custody. He is currently receiving treatment at the Akim Oda Government Hospital under police supervision.
Investigators have since launched a manhunt for the other suspects believed to have participated in the attempted theft.
The police have appealed to members of the public to volunteer credible information that could lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects as efforts continue to bring all those involved to justice.
