Abuamang-AchaAbloryouth accuses GTEC of move to block DACE report

The Abuamang-Acha Ablor Youth Association has accused the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) of impeding the release of a fact-finding report on the Dambai College of Education (DACE).

At a media engagement, the Association alleged that a meeting held on June 9, 2026, between officials of the GTEC and the Governing Council of the College in Accra, pressure was exerted on the Council to withhold the report from the public.

The youth group urged all relevant authorities to ensure transparency and accountability in the handling of the report, which investigates administrative and governance matters at the college.

Mr Daniel Bamease, the Secretary of the Association, described the alleged action as an attempt to undermine transparency and accountability in the management of the institution.

The group therefore urged the GTEC, the Ministry of Education and the Governing Council of the DACE to make the report public in the interest of students, staff and other stakeholders.

The call follows revelations contained in a document titled “Final Report on the Independent Investigation sighted by the Ghana News Agency (GNA), which examined allegations against the Principal of the College, Mrs Benedicta Atiku Awuse.

According to the report, investigators identified irregularities in procurement, asset management and financial reporting practices at the institution.

Among the findings was an allegation that the college's furniture valued at GH¢52,500 had been diverted to the principal's private residence.

The report noted that the amount involved was later refunded, although no interest was paid.

The investigation also highlighted concerns regarding the procurement and registration of a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado in a private company instead of the college, although the college paid fully valued at GH¢1.185 million.

On financial management, the report indicated that the UTDBE account was omitted from the college's audited financial statements from 2021 to 2024, resulting in an understatement of current assets by approximately GH¢1.44 million.

The report further made findings relating to staff welfare, labour relations, workplace safety and administrative transparency within the college.

The independent investigation is expected to inform decisions by the relevant authorities on the way forward.

Stakeholders are awaiting official responses from GTEC, the Ministry of Education and the Governing Council of Dambai College of Education regarding the findings and recommendations contained in the report.
