Over 12,000 complete courses under One Million Coders Programme — Communications Ministry

The Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation has anounced that more than 12,000 Ghanaians have completed courses under the One Million Coders Programme just weeks after the rollout of its second phase.

The programme, one of the flagship campaign promises of the National Democratic Congress, is a massive national initiative designed to equip one million citizens with free, world-class digital skills.

Launched under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, the project aims to bridge the digital skills gap and position Ghana as Africa's premier technology hub.

In a statement shared on Friday, May 29, the Ministry noted that the development reflects increasing national interest in digital skills and the rapid uptake of the initiative since Phase Two began on May 11.

“Latest analytics from the program’s learning platforms indicate that 12,623 course completions have been recorded since the start of Phase Two,” the Ministry stated.

According to the Ministry, the achievement goes beyond numbers and reflects a shift in mindset among citizens seeking to improve employability and entrepreneurial capacity.

The statement explained that participants include students, teachers, entrepreneurs, market traders, public servants, persons with disabilities and young professionals, all taking advantage of flexible learning options.

“The figure reflects more than just completed courses. It represents thousands of individuals who have taken decisive steps toward improving their employability, enhancing their businesses, advancing their careers, and preparing for opportunities in the rapidly evolving digital economy,” the statement noted.

The Ministry noted that the programme is being delivered through a mix of in-person training centres, virtual instruction and self-paced online learning to ensure wider access nationwide.
