ECOWAS Backs Ghana’s Anti‑Xenophobia Push, Endorses Accra Reparatory Justice Commitments — Ablakwa

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa says the ECOWAS Council of Ministers has thrown its full weight behind Ghana’s petition to the African Union (AU) on xenophobia and has also endorsed the Accra Next Steps Commitments on Reparatory Justice.

The minister revealed the development in a Facebook post on Sunday, July 19, while attending meetings of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers in Sierra Leone ahead of the Authority of Heads of State and Government summit.

According to Ablakwa, the regional endorsement signals growing continental support for Ghana’s push to strengthen tolerance, unity and justice across Africa.

“I commend the ECOWAS Council of Ministers for declaring full support for Ghana's petition to the African Union against Xenophobia and for their unconditional endorsement of the Accra Next Steps Commitments on Reparatory Justice,” he wrote.

He added that Ghana remains unwavering in its pursuit of policies that advance African unity and protect the dignity and rights of all people on the continent.

“We shall keep working tirelessly towards the attainment of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah's dream of a united, tolerant and prosperous Africa,” he stated.

Ablakwa is part of Ghana’s delegation participating in the ECOWAS meetings in Sierra Leone, where regional leaders are expected to deliberate on major political, economic and security issues affecting West Africa.
