Rotary Club of Accra‑Odadee Marks 2nd Anniversary with Lifesaving Support for Mothers and Newborns

The Rotary Club of Accra‑Odadee AOGA has marked its 2nd anniversary and Mother’s Day with a powerful show of compassion, delivering critical healthcare support to mothers and newborns at the Shai‑Osudoku District Hospital in Dodowa and the Achimota Hospital.

The initiative, rooted in Rotary’s global focus on maternal and child health, provided direct relief to vulnerable mothers while strengthening the capacity of the two health facilities.

As part of the outreach, the Club—working with the Wheelchair Foundation and Chair The Hope—donated wheelchairs to enhance mobility for patients. New mothers also received newborn care packages stocked with essential baby items to ease the financial strain during the delicate post‑delivery period.

In one of the most impactful interventions, the Club settled outstanding medical bills for several mothers who were unable to pay after delivery. The gesture brought visible relief to beneficiaries, some of whom had faced delayed discharge due to unpaid fees.

Club President, Rotarian Mother Teresa Brew, said the project was deliberately aligned with Mother’s Day to honour the resilience and sacrifices of mothers. She stressed that healthcare support remains a pressing need in many communities and called on service organisations to continue complementing government efforts.

Hospital officials at both facilities expressed deep appreciation, noting that the donations and financial support would significantly ease the burden on patients and improve service delivery.

Emotional beneficiary mothers also praised the Club for stepping in at a moment of financial and emotional difficulty.

Since its chartering two years ago, the alumni‑based Rotary Club—comprising mainly old students of PRESEC and Aburi Girls’ Secondary School—has undertaken impactful projects in health, education, youth empowerment, and environmental sustainability.

As members celebrate the Club’s second anniversary, they reaffirmed their commitment to Rotary’s enduring motto: Service Above Self. The anniversary project stands as a reminder that acts of kindness and compassion can restore dignity, hope, and stability to those who need it most.
