The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting inclusive development and safeguarding vulnerable populations following the launch of BRAC International’s Social Development Programme in Ghana.
The initiative, unveiled in Accra, aims to empower vulnerable communities—particularly women and girls—through interventions focused on poverty reduction, financial inclusion, and sustainable livelihoods.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, the Chief Director of the Ministry, Dr. Marian W. A. Kpakpah, described the programme as a timely intervention that reflects a shared commitment to social justice and human dignity.
She emphasized that government alone cannot effectively tackle poverty and vulnerability, underscoring the need for strong collaboration among development partners, civil society organisations, communities, and the private sector.
Dr. Kpakpah commended BRAC International for its longstanding dedication to community‑based development and its impact across several countries through innovative social interventions.
According to her, the organisation’s focus on education, women’s empowerment, healthcare, youth development, and livelihood support aligns strongly with the Ministry’s mandate to promote gender equality, protect children, and support persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.
She reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring inclusive growth and comprehensive social protection for all citizens in line with Ghana’s national development agenda.
BRAC International’s Social Development Programme adopts an integrated model that combines social enterprise, financial inclusion, and community empowerment strategies to help families build resilience and improve their socio‑economic conditions.
The launch event brought together stakeholders from government institutions, development agencies, civil society organisations, the diplomatic community, and the media, all of whom reiterated the need for stronger partnerships to address poverty and inequality in Ghana.
