Aburi: Police arrest 10 over illegal possession of firearms amid chieftaincy dispute

The Ghana Police Service has arrested ten persons for unlawful possession of arms and ammunition in connection with a chieftaincy dispute at Adambrobe in Aburi.

The suspects were picked up on Sunday, May 3, during an operation by the Aburi District Police Command.

In a statement dated May 4, the law enforcement agency said the arrests form part of efforts to maintain law and order as the conflict continues to escalate.

“On Sunday, May 3, 2026, the Aburi District Command arrested ten (10) suspects at Adambrobe, Aburi for the possession of arms and ammunition without authority in connection with the Adambrobe Chieftaincy dispute,” the Police statement read in part.

The suspects include Dawu Joseph, a farmer; Kwame Aboagye, a vulcanizer; Samuel Obeng, a taxi driver; and Owusu Paul, a member of the Adambrobe Asekyere family.

The rest are Jerry John Kwame Atilla, a businessman, and five private security personnel—Evans Dekadzor, Christian Atsu, Samuel Annan, Thomas Davidson and Richard Agyeman.

According to the Police, a cache of weapons and items was retrieved during the operation.

These include five pump-action rifles, twenty-three live cartridges, a taser, six mobile phones and a body armour.

Two vehicles; a Toyota Corolla with registration number GE 2560-19 and an unregistered Ford pickup, were also impounded for allegedly transporting the suspects.

The Police further disclosed that an additional suspect was arrested a day later, bringing the total number of persons in custody to eleven.

“An additional suspect Douglas Amoako Danquah was arrested today 04/05/2026 after being sighted in a procession within the township bringing the number of arrested suspects to eleven (11),” the statement added.

All suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations, while the Police have assured residents of their commitment to restoring calm in the area.
