The Member of Parliament for Yendi, Alhassan Fatawu, has dismissed calls for a load-shedding timetable amid the recent intermittent power outages.

His comments come at the time when Ghanaians are experiencing unstable electricity supply which has raised concerns among households and businesses.

The outages have been linked to ongoing transformer upgrades and other technical challenges within the power distribution system.

Amid the outages, some Ghanaians and civil society organizations are calling on the Electricity Company of Ghana to publish a load shedding timetable.

However, speaking on Accra-based TV3’s New Day show on Tuesday, April 28, the lawmaker argued that the ECG is already providing adequate information to affected areas.

“I don’t think Ghanaians are asking for a timetable; Ghanaians are asking for information… when their lights will be on or off,” he said.

He explained that targeted communication to specific communities affected by outages is more effective than a nationwide schedule.

Mr. Fatawu added that the focus should be on resolving the technical challenges rather than compiling timetables.

“For me, the period is just too short for me to start saying that there should be a timetable… there should be communication, but not necessarily a timetable,” he stated.

He further noted that the ongoing transformer upgrade programme is necessary to address increased load demand due to rapid urban development.

According to him, the relevant bodies should prioritise fixing the problem quickly while keeping affected communities informed, rather than introducing what he described as unnecessary scheduling measures.
