The Attorney General's Department has taken over the case of the recent accident involving 56 year old Thomas Osei, whose car ran into President John Agyekum Kufuor's convoy recently in Accra.

The AG's Department says the case has national security implications and has asked the court for two weeks for further investigation into the matter.

Thomas Osei who was remanded in police custody by the Accra Motor Court is being held for dangerous driving, negligently causing harm, driving under the influence of alcohol and failing to give way to the presidential convoy.

He made his second appearance in court on Friday, hedged between two armed policemen.

According to Joy News correspondent, Sammy Darko who attended the hearing, Lawyer Kwame Akuffo, who is counsel for Thomas Osei pleaded with the court not to allow the state institutions to use the excuse of further investigations to unduly hold his client.

Kwame Akuffo said much as his client regrets the incident, he does not plead guilty.

“The police say they are investigating, considering the particular conduct and the particular implications of this matter and the personalities involved, we are willing to wait two more weeks for them to complete their investigations so that we can have this matter dealt with properly.”
