The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations has distributed laptops to selected institutions and centres to support the nationwide rollout of the One Million Coders Programme (OMCP).
The presentation, which took place on April 10, 2026, marks a major step in government’s efforts to equip young Ghanaians with essential coding and digital skills for employment in the global digital economy.
Speaking at the ceremony held at the Ministry’s Conference Room on Friday, the Minister explained that insights gained from the programme’s pilot phase have guided the structure of the nationwide rollout. According to the Minister, the goal is to ensure that participants acquire practical, job-ready skills that translate into real employment opportunities.
Under Phase One of the initiative, 130 learning centres across all 16 regions will be operational, each furnished with 50 customised laptops configured specifically for coding training.
The rollout is being implemented in collaboration with key institutions, including the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), Ghana Digital Centres Limited, and the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT.
Additionally, twelve universities are participating in the first phase, including the University of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, and the University of Cape Coast.
The Ministry also highlighted private sector contributions, particularly from MTN Ghana, which provided support valued at approximately two million US dollars to procure additional laptops for selected universities.
The One Million Coders Programme is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing Ghana’s digital transformation agenda by preparing a workforce ready for opportunities in artificial intelligence, software development, and remote digital jobs.
