The Ministry of Health has suspended the Principal of the Nkanchina College of Nursing, Fredrick Anaba, over what the ministry describes as over-admission of students and the introduction of unapproved academic programmes.

The suspension, announced on Thursday, March 12, takes immediate effect.

The Ministry has also launched an administrative investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the school’s admissions for the 2025/2026 academic year.

The decision follows concerns raised by the Ministry after reviewing the institution’s admission processes and academic programme approvals.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, March 12, the Ministry said the action became necessary after it issued a query to the principal regarding the admissions and his response failed to resolve the issues.

“The Ministry of Health has suspended the Principal of the College of Nursing, Nkanchina, Mr. Fredrick Anaba, with immediate effect pending a comprehensive administrative investigation into alleged over-admission of students and the unauthorized introduction of new academic programmes,” the statement said in part.

According to the Ministry, the query was initially issued on February 19, 2026, after concerns emerged about the number of students admitted into the institution for the current academic year.

It explained that after reviewing the response submitted by the principal, it concluded that a thorough investigation was required to establish the facts.

“The decision follows a query issued by the Ministry on 19 February 2026 concerning the 2025/2026 admissions into the institution. After reviewing the response submitted by the Principal, the Ministry determined that a full investigation is necessary to establish the facts surrounding the matter,” the statement noted.

The Ministry further directed the suspended Principal to hand over the administration and management of the college to the Acting Vice Principal to ensure the smooth running of the institution.
