The Coalition of Unpaid Nurses and Midwives Ghana has levelled serious allegations against the government, claiming that validated salary arrears due its members have been deleted from official payment vouchers without any payments being made.
In a statement issued on Thursday, February 26, the Coalition described the situation as “deeply troubling” and demanded urgent accountability from the relevant authorities.
According to the group, affected nurses and midwives had consistently seen their outstanding arrears validated within the government payroll system month after month, even though the actual funds were not disbursed.
“However, upon the most recent validation for February 2026, these accumulated arrears have suddenly and completely disappeared from our Payment Vouchers,” the statement said.
The Coalition further alleged that when the issue was raised publicly, the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department swiftly dismissed the claims.
“This denial is shocking and unacceptable,” the group stated.
It added that Payroll Validators and Human Resource Officers in several health facilities have independently confirmed that the arrears were removed from the payment vouchers of affected staff without any corresponding payments.
“Our questions are: who authorised the removal of our legitimately earned arrears, and on what legal or administrative basis were these arrears cleared?” the statement queried.
The Coalition described the development as unjust and deceptive, saying it reinforces long-standing concerns about transparency and fairness in the management of their salaries.
“Nurses and midwives who have worked tirelessly for this country cannot and will not accept a situation where their hard-earned income is quietly wiped away from official records,” it stressed.
The group is calling on government to immediately investigate the matter, restore the deleted arrears, and ensure full payment without delay. It warned that it would not hesitate to consider further action should the issue remain unresolved.
