The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has reminded Ghanaians of Ken Ofori-Atta’s past activism.

Speaking on TV3’s KeyPoints monitored by MyNewGh, he said Ken once demanded accountability from government.

“He joined Occupy Ghana,” he said. “He wrote articles calling for accountability.”

According to him, Ken attacked the media and civil society at the time.

“He said they were complacent,” he noted. “He wanted action.”

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu questioned Ken’s current position. “Why is he running now?” he asked.

“The same standard is being used on him.” He said Ken now paints Ghana as unsafe. “Suddenly Ghana is a banana republic,” he stated. “That is not true.”

He compared him to others who have faced court. “Opuni, Sedina, Atufosun,” he listed. “They all appeared.” He concluded firmly. “If I am accused, I will go,” he said. “We must all face the law equally.”

In a related developement, Former Member of Parliament for the Subin Constituency, Eugene Boakye Antwi, says the continued absence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has fueled public perception that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is corrupt.

Speaking in an interview on Oyerepa TV, Boakye Antwi argued that repeated references to Ofori-Atta by the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, without the former minister making himself available to respond, have caused serious damage to the party’s image.

“Have you ever seen a political party leave government and its finance minister cannot be found?

“It has been one year since Kissi Agyebeng started mentioning Ken Ofori-Atta’s name,” he said.

“Do you know the damage that has caused the party? They have implanted in the minds of Ghanaians that the NPP are thieves.”

He explained that these public accusations, combined with Ofori-Atta’s absence, have strengthened negative perceptions about the party’s time in office.

Boakye Antwi stressed that public officials are only caretakers of state resources and must be accountable for how they manage them.
