Kwasi Kwarteng, spokesperson for Kennedy Agyapong’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer campaign, has defended the former Assin Central MP against criticism from his former wife, former Dome Kwabenya MP Sara Adwoa Safo.
Adwoa Safo had suggested that her political future would be at risk if Kennedy Agyapong became President, saying she would not be considered for a ministerial appointment due to their past relationship.
Responding on Accra-based JoyNews on Monday, December 15, Kwasi Kwarteng described her statement as an unintended endorsement of Agyapong’s principles, particularly his commitment to meritocracy and avoiding nepotism.
“But Ken does not want to be the president of Ghana just to advance individual people’s political ambitions and future aspirations. He wants to become a president of Ghana to solve problems, the problems that confront us as a society,” Kwarteng said.
He added that Agyapong’s personal relationships will not interfere with governance, highlighting his independence and integrity.
“Even despite the fact that she happens to find herself in a different camp today, she made it clear that when Ken comes, Ken is not going to practice nepotism,” he noted.
Kwarteng argued that such statements from Adwoa Safo reinforce Agyapong’s campaign message of principled leadership, focusing on national issues like unemployment, healthcare, and public safety rather than rewarding friends and family.
He further urged delegates of the NPP to recognize the Kennedy Agyapong’s commitment to transparency and fairness and vote for him on January 31, 2026.
