Political conversations within the Afadzato South Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are increasingly pointing to a major shift in the race for the Constituency Communications Officer position, as delegates intensify engagements ahead of the party’s internal elections.
What was once considered a routine appointment has now become one of the most closely watched contests in the constituency. Growing indications suggest that former Assembly Member and former Area Coordinator, Hon. Godwin Agbeko Akpadzi, is steadily winning the confidence of a significant section of the party’s grassroots.
Hon. Akpadzi, widely known among party faithful for his active involvement in grassroots mobilization and constituency political activities, is facing competition from Mr. Beloved Ansah for the communications portfolio.
The race took a dramatic turn following the unexpected withdrawal of the incumbent Communications Officer, Hon. Emmanuel Sesi, who has now shifted his focus to the Constituency Secretary position. He is expected to face the incumbent Deputy Secretary in what many observers describe as another potentially intense and highly competitive contest.
Although Hon. Sesi has not publicly explained his decision to switch portfolios, political analysts within the constituency believe the move carries strategic implications for the party’s internal dynamics. Some observers suggest the development could indirectly boost the chances of Hon. Akpadzi, whose campaign continues to gain traction among delegates and constituency executives.
Meanwhile, campaign activities across Afadzato South are gathering momentum as aspirants engage delegates with messages of unity, reorganization, and enhanced political visibility for the party. Across several electoral areas, delegates and activists openly discuss what they describe as the need for “a new direction” in the party’s communication strategy ahead of future national elections.
According to political watchers, Hon. Akpadzi’s rising popularity is tied to his campaign message, which emphasizes grassroots engagement, innovative communication, marketing strategy, and public relations experience — qualities many delegates believe are essential to repositioning the party’s image and strengthening internal communication structures.
Some delegates who spoke anonymously noted that the contest goes beyond personalities, insisting that the outcome could significantly shape the NPP's future communication machinery in Afadzato South.
“The delegates seem to be looking for energy, visibility, and a communication approach that connects directly with the grassroots,” one party insider remarked.
With tension steadily building and consultations ongoing, many within the constituency believe the upcoming internal elections could mark a defining moment for the future direction of the NPP in Afadzato South.
