A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) legal team, Victor Kojoga Adawudu, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to condemn the violence that erupted during the Ablekuma North election rerun.
The rerun, conducted in 19 polling stations on Friday, July 11, was marred by chaotic scenes as thugs stormed voting centres, attacking several people, including journalists.
Reacting to the development on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Monday, July 14, Mr Adawudu said Ghanaians expect President Mahama to take a firm stand and not repeat the mistakes of the past.
“The issue is that once this has happened, yes, we need to condemn it in no uncertain terms. At the end of the day, this had happened previously. People are calling on the President to come out and at least make a statement. I agree with them,” he stated.
“We know he’s peaceful, he’s a unifier, and he binds people together. He cannot stay silent on this. We should not gage it and say because the previous regime refused to comment or take action, we should do the same. The call is in the right direction. He’s the father of the nation.”
Mr Adawudu further claimed Ghanaians voted massively for the NDC in the 2024 general elections because they could no longer endure the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
“People realized we could not continue this way. We were going in the wrong direction. That is why there was that massive win, or landslide victory, for President John Mahama,” he added.
