A Deadly Trend: The Rising Menace of Poisoning Among the Youth

A Deadly Trend: The Rising Menace of Poisoning Among the Youth

In recent times, a disturbing and heartbreaking trend has emerged in our society—the increasing number of young, vibrant individuals falling victim to poisoning. I have personally lost three dear friends within the past year, all full of life and promise, whose dreams were suddenly cut short by this silent killer. These deaths were not the result of natural causes or tragic accidents; they were cold, calculated acts of poisoning.

This is not just my story. It is a growing concern for many families and communities across the nation. It seems that no day passes without a tragic headline announcing the mysterious death of a young man or woman, often suspected to be from poisoning. These young people, some with bright academic prospects, flourishing careers, or blossoming businesses, become targets in a society increasingly plagued by jealousy, competition, betrayal, and cruelty masked as friendship.

Why is this happening? What kind of society have we become, where people feel the need to eliminate others to get ahead or to settle disputes? The disturbing truth is that envy and bitterness are eating deep into the fabric of our communities. Many no longer celebrate the success of others—instead, they view it as a threat. And in some dark corners of hearts twisted by jealousy, poisoning has become a tool of silent warfare.

In light of this deadly trend, I write to urgently advocate caution and vigilance. Our people must begin to take their personal safety seriously, especially in social and communal settings. Here are a few steps that can help prevent becoming the next victim:

1. Be Mindful of What You Eat and Drink: Never leave your food or drink unattended, especially in public gatherings or parties. If you do, do not return to it. If possible, consume only what you personally open or serve yourself.

2. Avoid Accepting Food from Strangers or Untrusted Sources: It is not everyone who smiles at you that wishes you well. If you must accept food or drink from someone, make sure it’s someone you trust deeply.

3. Know Your Circle: Re-evaluate the people you call friends. A true friend celebrates your success, not envies it. Do not ignore signs of jealousy, resentment, or unusual behavior from those around you.

4. Seek Medical Attention Immediately: If you feel sudden, unexplained symptoms such as dizziness, vomiting, confusion, or abdominal pain after eating or drinking, seek medical help immediately. Early detection can be the difference between life and death.

5. Promote a Culture of Love and Tolerance: As a people, we must begin to rebuild our moral compass. Envy and hatred are not solutions to personal dissatisfaction. Let us learn to celebrate others, to support their growth, and to find contentment in our own journeys.

Parents, teachers, community leaders, and religious institutions also have roles to play in nurturing a society where life is valued and protected. The youth should be taught to aspire without malice, to compete without hatred, and to succeed without becoming targets.

We must not remain silent while the lives of our future leaders, innovators, and dreamers are snatched away in their prime. We cannot afford to normalize such evil or treat these deaths as mere coincidences. Every life lost to poisoning is a reminder that we must act—and act now.

In memory of my friends and all the young souls lost to this menace, I call on every reader to be cautious, to be alert, and to be wise. Let us choose life—for ourselves and for others. Let us say no to envy, no to hate, and no to poisoning.

Together, we can end this deadly trend.
