President John Mahama's nominee for District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Offinso North District in the Ashanti Region, Caesar Ofosu Acheampong, has been overwhelmingly confirmed, securing 100% "yes" votes from Assembly Members.
The two-time parliamentary candidate for the 2020 and 2024 general elections received all 35 votes cast by Assembly Members on Friday, 16th May 2025—an unprecedented achievement in the history of the district.
The long-awaited confirmation ceremony took place at the District Assembly Conference Hall in Akumadan.
The event also witnessed the election of Mr. Charles Abugri, Assembly Member for the Nsenoa Electoral Area, as the new Presiding Member, filling a position that had remained vacant for two years.
The ceremony was well attended by traditional leaders from the Offinso Traditional Area, officials from the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, the Offinso South Municipal Chief Executive, party faithful, and members of the public. In his address, the newly confirmed DCE, Hon. Caesar Ofosu Acheampong, called for collective support to help him realize his vision for the district.
"I will work closely with stakeholders to position our noble Offinso North in a better place of the globe, and I cannot do this without your support," he stated in his address.
Speaking to journalists after the confirmation, Hon. Caesar Ofosu Acheampong expressed deep appreciation to the Assembly Members for their unanimous endorsement.
"I'm thankful to the Assembly members for giving me such unprecedented and overwhelming endorsement. I am much encouraged by the massive support to work assiduously in addressing challenges in education, health, sanitation, roads which are primary duties for every DCE,"he stated.
He described the outcome as a historic milestone and pledged to implement pragmatic strategies aimed at reducing poverty, boosting agriculture, and addressing the district’s poor road network.
"I am determined to do extra work by introducing poverty alleviating policies that will boost the local economy and impact positively on the financial status among residents," the DCE intimated.
Member of Parliament for Offinso North, Hon. Fred Kyei Asamoah, speaking to the media, urged the newly confirmed DCE to prioritize the district's development above partisan politics. He expressed his readiness to collaborate for the greater good.
"I would implore him to eschew excessive partisan interest but prioritize the welfare and well-being of the people and the district at large," MP Dr. Fred Kyei told journalists.
The Chief of Akumadan, Nana Boakye Akuamoah Boateng II, raised concerns about the district's long-standing reliance on Members of Parliament and central government for development.
He encouraged the Assembly to explore innovative strategies for generating local revenue to fund development projects.
The May 16 confirmation marked the sixth DCE approval since the district’s creation in 2008—and the first ever unanimous endorsement by Assembly Members.
Expectations among residents and stakeholders are high, especially as Hon. Caesar Ofosu Acheampong had proposed several policy interventions aimed at improving the district’s economy during his 2024 parliamentary campaign.
