Understanding The Role Of The Otumfuo-Led Committee In Bawku Conflict

Good day, people of Bawku and all listening.
Today, let’s talk about something very important — the Otumfuo-led committee that was formed to help bring peace to Bawku.

Many people are confused about what this committee is really there to do. Some say they are waiting for the committee to give a final decision. But is that what this committee is for? Let's break it down in simple terms.

There are two words we need to understand: Mediation and Arbitration.

Mediation is when someone helps two sides sit down, talk, and agree among themselves. The mediator does not make any decision for them — the people themselves must agree.

Arbitration, on the other hand, is when both sides agree to let someone decide for them — and that decision is final. Whether you like it or not, you must accept it.

So the question is, what is the Otumfuo committee doing?

Sadly, the government and the committee themselves have not told us clearly. And because of that, many people are confused and waiting for something that may never come.

Even people we call security experts, like Adib Saani and Emmanuel Bombande, are not helping. They talk on TV and radio, but they themselves don’t seem to know the difference between mediation and arbitration. Or maybe they just want to be popular by talking about the issue without giving the right information.

The media houses — the TV stations, the radio stations, the newspapers — they are also failing us. They should have asked the right questions and demanded that the government tell us if this is mediation or arbitration. But they haven’t.

Our politicians are no different. From President Akufo-Addo, to MPs, to ministers, they all keep telling us to wait for a verdict from the mediation committee. But there is no such thing as a verdict in mediation! It is only talking and trying to agree — no final decision from the committee.

Our own MP, Mahama Ayariga, has been telling his people to wait since the time of Akufo-Addo — and even before that, under Mahama’s time. Both NPP and NDC politicians have used this to buy time, calm the people, and continue doing politics without solving the real problem.

My people, let us open our eyes.
We must demand that the government and the Otumfuo-led committee tell us the truth.

Is this committee to mediate or to arbitrate?

We must know, so we don’t waste our time waiting for something that will never come.

Let’s stop being used as political football.

The time for honesty, dialogue, and real peace is now.
