Don’t rely on Mahama’s brilliance, complement his work with good performance

President John Dramani Mahama has admonished his appointees to eschew arrogance, disrespect of citizenry and impertinence in the new government. In his words he said “Arrogance and disrespect are not desirable in this government, and you must exhibit humility in your in interactions with the public. Power is transient, and public office is like a revolving door that can let you leave just as quickly as you came in”.

The President couldn’t have said it any better, indeed arrogance is a dangerous trait, disrespect is an insult to the very people who chose to give you power, on this evidence, why would anyone engage in these acts?. Engaging in these acts is indistinguishable from a suicide mission. The results from the just ended elections clearly demonstrate the level of trust and confidence Ghanaians have in the competence and brilliance of president Mahama, his patriotism and love for Ghana is in no doubt. There is no doubt about his competence, experience and desire to transform this country and leave a lasting legacy as one of the best presidents this country has ever had. Anyone who knows the president will attest to his brilliance and hunger for success.

However, there areas of concern, that relates to the attitude, posturing and performance of the appointees of the president. The president has a flurry of competent and experienced people to choose from both home and in the diaspora, therefore all appointments are by merit and privilege. In view of this, anyone privileged to be appointed to serve in this government must justify their inclusion with hard work, dedication, selflessness, humility and commitment to the ideologies and the ideals of the president, because this government cannot afford to disappoint Ghanaians as the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government did.

Remember, unlike former president Akufo-Addo, the current president will not shield his appointees who are found to be lazy, incompetent, corrupt, materialistic and arrogant. He will not be a clearing agent; he will crack the whip irrespective of his close association with any appointee. A word to the wise is enough; let those who have ears listen.

President Mahama is different and hungry for success through his leadership qualities, experience, vision, patience, tolerance and credibility which makes him an exceptional personality essential for Ghana’s future. With a focus on economic growth, social justice, youth empowerment, and infrastructural development, President Mahama has demonstrated his commitment to building a prosperous and inclusive Ghana with humility, competent, respect for rules of law and inclusivity.

Considering the overwhelming confidence and trust reposed in the President and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 elections, it is imperative upon all appointees to bring on board their skills, knowledge and above all work harder to complement the qualities of the president in building the Ghana we all want. Of course, the President cannot do it alone, he requires the support and knowledge of the appointees to succeed, therefore, it is important to eschew emotions, greed, arrogance, and most importantly complacency and work assiduously towards a monumental success which will satisfy Ghanaians and make the NDC irreplaceable in the eyes of Ghanaians.

Appointments in this government must not be seen as an opportunity to make money and display opulence, but rather, it should be seen as a rare opportunity to serve and be judged by history as part of those who took Ghana from the brink of collapse, reset it and eventually made it a prosperous nation.
