The revelation by Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor the Member of Parliament (MP) for Yapei Kusawgu to the effect that the country currently has fuel reserve that can sustain our energy generation plants for only five hours is not only shocking but unbelievable.
The MP criticised the previous Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration for its negligence and failure to secure sufficient fuel supplies, leaving the new administration in a challenging and precarious situation. This is nothing but a planned effort in order to sabotage the new regime in order to make Ghanaians believe that H.E. John Dramani Mahama may have caused the looming energy crises otherwise known as “Dumsor”.
He further revealed that, it takes approximately four weeks for the fuel to arrive if procured and another four weeks to process it to consumption level, this indicate that even if the current administration were to secure fuel today, it will take eight weeks before it could be utilised.
Evidently, someone somewhere in the previous administration intentionally failed to secure the fuel in order to sabotage this new regime. It is in this regard that, the saboteurs must be fished out and prosecuted for this gross negligence and national sabotage. These kinds of actions should not be overlooked, there must be consequences to deter other from similar actions in the future.
Whoever did this was aware that, even though the country’s electricity production depends largely on natural gas, inadequate backup fuel reserves has the propensity to make the power sector vulnerable to disruptions.
There seem to be a certain level tolerance towards this kind of incompetence, and I think the time has come for this to be brought to an end. People should be made to face the consequences of their actions.
I have confidence in the ability of the new president to address this challenge, however, I believe there should be repercussions for those saboteurs whose only objective is to plunge this country into darkness for political gains.
