The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially declared Patrick Boakye Yiadom of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the Member of Parliament-elect for the Obuasi East constituency following a re-collation of parliamentary election results today.
The re-collation process, held at the EC's Greater Accra Office today December 21, confirmed Mr. Boakye Yiadom’s victory with 18,558 votes narrowly defeating his closest rival, Samuel Aboagye of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who secured 18,539 votes.
This means the NPP candidate retained his seat with a slim margin of just 19 votes.
Independent candidate Adjei Owusu Afriyie trailed behind with 424 votes.
The re-collation was necessitated by alleged procedural irregularities identified during the initial collation.
Obuasi East is one of nine constituencies undergoing re-collation today.
The results of the remaining eight are expected to be announced later, with the nation eagerly anticipating the outcomes.
