The Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has criticized the Electoral Commission (EC) for annulling parliamentary election results in Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central and Ablekuma North.
The Electoral Commission earlier annulled the results for the three constituencies, citing procedural violations and security threats during the collation process.
Jean Mensa disclosed at a press briefing that the declaration of winners in Okaikwei Central and Ablekuma North was marred by irregularities, including the omission of results from 31 and 62 polling stations, respectively.
“In the case of Okaikwei Central, the winner was declared without collating results from 31 polling stations. In the case of Ablekuma North, a winner was declared without collating results from 62 polling stations,” Mensa stated. “This is unacceptable. The declarations were made under threats, and the Commission considers these as illegal.”
The NDC stalwart described the decision as an attempt to undermine the party’s parliamentary majority, warning the EC to avoid provoking the NDC beyond its tolerance.
Dr. Omane Boamah took to Facebook on Thursday, December 19, to condemn the EC’s actions, describing its recent press conference as “useless” and accusing Chairperson Jean Mensa of acting in the interest of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“She has obviously been instructed by NPP to dilute the 2/3 majority of NDC. But she will fail! She must not tempt us beyond our endurance! We mean business!” he wrote.
Dr. Omane Boamah questioned the EC’s commitment to transparency, accusing it of deliberately avoiding critical scrutiny.
“Instead of agreeing with our demand for an emergency IPAC meeting, she has decided to hide to avoid critical questions being asked at the IPAC meeting. Shameful!” he said.
He also urged party members and supporters to remain vigilant. “Still keep #EAGLEEYES on the criminal Electoral Commission and the outgoing NPP administration,” he added.
