The Upper East Regional Minister led a delegation of engineers from the Ghana Airports Company Limited to inspect the site earmarked for the proposed airport project in the Upper East Region on Saturday, May 2, 2026.
The visit, which took place at Sumbrungu in the Bolgatanga area, brought together key stakeholders, including the MCE for Bolgatanga, Hon. Roland Ayoo, as well as chiefs, opinion leaders, and youth leaders of the community.
The technical team from the Ghana Airports Company Limited, drawn from both Accra and Tamale, was led by Ing. Samuel Asare. The engineers were on site to conduct an initial technical assessment of the land designated for the project.
Briefing the traditional leaders and elders, Ing. Asare explained that the exercise forms part of the early technical processes required to advance the project, giving engineers a first-hand appreciation of the site “as presented by our chiefs.”
He expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation from stakeholders and noted that the assessment marks a key milestone in the implementation process. He added that once the necessary technical procedures are completed, the Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited and the President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama, are expected to visit the region to officially cut the sod for the commencement of the project.
Ing. Asare also encouraged residents of the region to see the airport as a national development asset rather than a localized project for Bolgatanga, emphasizing that it reflects government’s broader commitment to improving infrastructure, connectivity, and economic growth across the country.
He further indicated that the ongoing technical work is an important step towards ensuring smooth implementation, paving the way for the successful realization of the airport project, which is expected to significantly enhance development opportunities in the Upper East Region.
