The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has once again solidified its dominance in the Tamale Central Constituency as its candidate, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, secured a decisive victory in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
Murtala Mohammed retained the seat for the NDC, defeating the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Sulemana Salifu in a contest that drew attention both locally and nationally.
The NDC’s firebrand polled 52,263 votes, while his contender, Sulemana Salifu, polled 16,647 votes.
Murtala’s re-election is seen as a continuation of the NDC's legacy in the area, which has long been regarded as a stronghold for the party.
As a former Minister for Information and later a Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry under the Mahama administration, Murtala Mohammed gained recognition for his articulate advocacy and deep understanding of governance.
In Parliament, he has been an outspoken representative, championing issues such as youth empowerment, infrastructure development, and education.
