Apparently, the die is cast, and no amount of grand scheming, wanton monetization, threats and intimidation can alter what is already written. Of the several months of restlessness, we have touched down with the people. They, the kingmakers, have received the NDC message of hope, rejuvenation and reconstruction under the “Resetting Ghana” agenda, the only path that can bring Ghana back to its days of glory, respect, pride, national unity and vision. Those are the cardinal pillars of the NDC vision.
The people are a living testimony to the unprecedented hardship, frustration, discrimination, lawlessness, corruption by those in power, abject poverty and suffering of the masses. Indeed, the recount of some of these from the people leave one in bloody tears. In my voter sensitization with the people, they spoke in grief, in pain and in agony. The sad narrative of how people cannot afford a three-square meal, basic commodities, shoulder their medical bills and how they lost their investments through draconian and insensitive policies of the NPP government were the loudest. Alas, anti-democratic tendencies of those in power and so much desperation to protect same, have made the hitherto brave citizens, virtually timid and reluctant to even express their sense of belonging. They simply murmur, sing dirges and only hope to live another day, while those closer to the corridors of power, ridicule them by promising them heaven in the unknown future while displaying extreme opulence.
The people have become aware of the old-fashioned trick where those in power blame God to justify why the people must reel under the economic hardship yet hoard millions of cedis in bedrooms and water tanks. The people have become aware that this stolen cake is what is used in this dying minute to induce them for votes. This kind of disrespect for the conscience of the people as well as the desecration of the sacred mandate of the people can only be done by wicked and insensitive desperate vampires who have the unrepentant penchant to siphon the blood of the innocent and poor citizens.
To be honest with you, this sad situation is worst in the Daffiama, Bussie, Issa in the Upper West Region. As a young political activist spanning more than a decade now, I have never seen this level of abuse of incumbency like I am witnessing.
The NDC who birthed the Daffiama, Bussie, Issa District with a lucid vision to bring development closer to the people, has held to the parliamentary seat since 1992. The NPP has always devised serious strategies to win the seat but always fail. In 2017 when the NPP won power, with the benefit of the NDC legacy of a young District, Hon Nadi Imoro Sanda was appointed the District Chief Executive. The Assembly was dominated by representatives affiliated to the NDC but with the clear mind to develop the District, the Assembly Members confirmed the appointment without political consideration.
With that path of collectiveness, one would have expected the DCE to work with all stakeholders in bringing a holistic development of the district. Unfortunately, however, Hon Nadi Imoro Sanda has since been advancing a personal political agenda. His entry into the Assembly was an opportunity to launch his agenda to first take control of his party in DBI, and then combine that force with the leverage of incumbency to topple over the incumbent member of Parliament, Hon Sebastian Sandaare. There is nothing wrong wanting to grow politically but to overly politicize the District Assembly and virtually turn it into an NPP constituency office presents a danger to the collective efforts of seeing the growth of our young District. Most Assembly Members are sidelined because they refuse to connive with him to advance his political interest. Those influential NPP members who do not demonstrate loyalty for his quest for political control of the NPP as if he owns it, are equally sidelined.
In the 2020 elections, he presented himself to the people to voted as an MP, many of these issues I have raised took a center stage and thwarted his efforts despite the unprecedented abuse of power and incumbency. Mention is made of how the NPP in the constituency distributed monies meant for the fight against covid-19. Millions of cedis went into the pockets of the Parliamentary candidate, Hon Nadi Imoro Sanda and his alter boys. One million dollar per constituency was also left in the hands of the NPP. No wonder many have built mansions from the stolen cash. In all of these, the NPP could not win the seat. The same style of “we can buy” the votes last minute continuous unabated by Sanda and his boys. They have ran down the Assembly into insolvency because of the advancement of this unspeakable personal aggrandizement.
Through out the campaign season for this 2024 elections, I can authoritatively state that the NPP parliamentary candidate is even more committed buying the mandate of the people than before. His aggravated opulence fueled by extreme desperation may have dire consequences on the Assembly. I say this because, the Assembly is choked with debts. I am aware that the Assembly was resenttly sent to court on similar grounds of non-payment of debts. The next NDC government must audit thoroughly the finances of the Assembly.
I wish to urge the people of DBI, particularly the youth, to reject the vote buying agenda. The many years of hardship we have been witnessing cannot be ended by the targeted 100 cedi cash per voter. He has become so rich to our detriment and his life will never be the same but if you take the wrong decisions today, be sure of more hardship.
The NPP parliamentary candidate has subtly admitted failure of his government and has adopted a hypocritical political strategy asking for people to vote for him and John Dramani Mahama. Seriously? Wonders shall never end. So, the Hon Nadi Imoro Sanda now believes in the vision of John Mahama? Well, this advocacy for skirt and blowse to his personal favor against his own presidential candidate and the larger interest of the NPP is a manifestation of his long-standing self-seeking political agenda. No one should pay heed to this defeatist approach to favor a man who has amassed wealth so much in the last eight years of being a district chief executive. I will not be surprised if some discerning members of the NPP petition against him for acting ultra vires to the NPP constitution. This greedy campaign message has been mentioned at many communities where he believes are NDC strongholds.
The fact remains, that, it is obvious the NDC is wining the election hands down and voting for the NPP parliamentary candidate who does not believe in the policies and visions of the NDC. The Hon Sebastian Sandaare has distinguished himself as a Member of Parliament, who has the capacity to help the incoming president, John Dramani Mahama to reset the country. He, John Dramani Mahama on his campaign tour to Bussie and Kojokperi respectively, stated this forcefully to the people of DBI that he needs the experienced Hon Sebastian Sandaare. If we really desire a radical transformation in our area, let us vote massively for JM and Sandaare. With the coming into power with the duo, with all appointees supporting this vision, Daffiama, Bussie, Issa will see radical transformation. It is solemn promise.
The next NDC government will open mechanized farm center in DBI to help our farmers, we shall enroll scholarship schemes for our students, enhanced apprenticeship programs for the youth, help the youth to be recruited into the security services, take advantage of the women development bank to help our poor women and improve the general infrastructure of the area. Poverty eradication shall be a major consideration in all policies. We shall have a district hospital under NDC and have all our health centers upgraded.
Let us all punish the NPP together with Sanda. We cannot sign another contract of hardship. I urge all my readers, NPP and NDC alike, to ensure that we salvage our people from the many years of frustration. Just be part of this history.
I wish you peace and tranquility as we march towards the path of change.
May God Almighty, our ancestors and gods of the land all help us protect our mandate in the interest of nation building against individual dynasties.
I dedicate this article to all individuals who having been sacrificing their personal resources and energy just to see this change happen. My word may not be enough, but God shall reward.
