The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has threatened legal action against persons circulating claims that his alleged bodyguard absconded with GH¢200 million belonging to the state agency.
This follows a social media publication alleging that one Dominic Bonsu, who was described as Sammy Gyamfi's bodyguard, had fled with GH¢200 million belonging to GoldBod.
Sammy Gyamfi, through his lawyers, described the claims as false, malicious and defamatory, noting that the individual named in the publication has no connection with him or GoldBod.
"Hon. Sammy Gyamfi, Esq. has never met, known, engaged or maintained any personal or professional relationship whatsoever with Mr. Dominic Bonsu," the legal notice issued on Wednesday, August 5, read in part.
The lawyers said the allegations have no factual or legal basis and demanded that individuals and organisations immediately stop publishing, republishing or sharing the claims in any form.
They cautioned that any person responsible for circulating the allegations could face civil legal action, including claims for damages and other remedies available under the law.
"The allegation that Mr. Dominic Bonsu absconded with GH¢200 million belonging to the Ghana Gold Board is false, fabricated, malicious, and wholly without factual or legal foundation," the notice stressed.
GoldBod had earlier dismissed the social media claims as fabricated, explaining that Dominic Bonsu Ventures' licence was suspended over suspected breaches of its licence conditions and GoldBod Trading Directives.
The Board said Mr Bonsu was subsequently arrested and remanded into lawful custody and is currently facing his ongoing legal proceedings.
