MTN Ghana Foundation has equipped the state-of-the-art robotics and ICT center at the Wiamoase Diaspora Public Library with advanced technology to enhance learning and training opportunities for the community.
The center is now furnished with robotics equipment, laptops, desktop computers, and other A.I. tools, making it a hub for students and residents to acquire crucial skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education.
The facility was officially commissioned on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, in a ceremony attended by officials from MTN Ghana Foundation and traditional leaders from Wiamoase.
The ICT center is designed to provide computer and internet access to all community members and offers a range of digital skills training programs, from basic computer literacy to advanced programming and robotics. It also supports local entrepreneurs by helping them develop digital business strategies and provides a collaborative workspace for students, professionals, and innovators.
The Wiamoase Diaspora Public Library, established by Wiamoase citizens living abroad, has designated this ICT center as a gateway for STEM education. The center equips students with technological skills to solve real-world problems creatively, promoting design-based thinking, and preparing them for future career opportunities.
Mr. Robert Kuzoe, Senior Manager at MTN Ghana Foundation, emphasized that this initiative forms part of the foundation’s commitment to supporting education, one of their key focus areas alongside health and economic empowerment.
He also mentioned that similar initiatives had been launched at the Mamfe Robotics Center, Akim Oda, and the Dansoman community library. The Wiamoase Diaspora Public Library is the first in the Ashanti Region to receive such support, and the foundation hopes to extend this initiative to other communities in the future.
"MTN is an engineering company, and it is our responsibility to empower young people to innovate and drive development," Mr. Kuzoe said.
The Chief of Wiamoase, Nana Boakye Yiadom, expressed his gratitude to MTN Ghana for their contribution. He encouraged students and residents to make good use of the facility and ensure that it is properly maintained.
Mr. Prince Owusu-Ansah, Municipal Education Director for Sekyere South, also thanked MTN Ghana, noting that equipping students with technological skills is essential for their success in the global competitive landscape.
Dr. Daniel Kwame Apau, Chairman of Wiamoase Citizens in the Diaspora, highlighted the group’s vision of transforming digital barriers into opportunities. "Whether you are a student seeking to enhance your STEM education, a professional looking to upgrade your skills, or an aspiring entrepreneur, this center is your launchpad. It will help reduce unemployment, stimulate economic growth, and ensure that no one is left behind in the digital revolution," he said.
