President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has opened up on his decision to remove Ken Ofori-Atta from his role as the Minister in charge of Finance.
The President in February announced the decision as part of a reshuffle of his Executive.
Interacting with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva at the Jubilee House over the weekend, President Akufo-Addo explained that he removed the Finance Minister to ensure he gets some rest after working tirelessly in the last seven years.
“Since last year, we have made some important changes in our government. Your old friend, Mr. Ofori-Atta has had seven years as a Finance Minister and I thought it was time for him to wind down and take on more narrow roles.
"And the new Minister of Finance is someone you have met before...now he has stepped forward,” President Akufo-Addo said during his engagement with the IMF boss.
After the removal of Ken Ofori-Atta as Finance Minister, he was subsequently appointed as the Senior Presidential Advisor and Special Envoy for International Finance and Private Sector Investments.
In the new role, Ken Ofori-Atta will lead the government’s charge to attract international investments and bolster private sector participation in Ghana's development.
