Assin North by-election: Ben Ephson predicts tough contest
02 JUN 2023 LISTEN

Chief Editor of the dispatch newspaper and pollster Benjamin Emmanuel Ephson, has stressed that the upcoming by-election in Assin-North will be a tough battle.

He said it will not be an easy win for the National Democratic Congress(NDC) or the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Mr. Ephson, the candidates put forward by both parties will considerably make an impact in the elections.

Mr Ephson provided further insight into the dynamics of Assin North seat in an interview with Accra-based Neat FM, asserting that “Unlike Kumawu, Assin-North is a stronghold for both parties. Effective analysis can be made when both present their candidates to the Electoral Commission.”

He also shed light on the potential impact of James Gyakye Quayson, the former MP who seeks to run again.

“The former MP, James Gyakye, wants to contest again. If that happens, obviously the NPP will use his criminal charges to their advantage during campaigns, and the NDC will also assert the presumption of innocence until proven guilty,” explained Ephson.

The Electoral Commission has stated June 27, 2023 for the by-election.

James Gyakye Quayson has officially declared his intention to contest the by-election as the NDC candidate.
