The Member of Parliament (MP) for Jomoro, Mrs. Dorcas Affo-Torffey, has secured the number one position on the ballot paper for the upcoming NDC parliamentary primaries in the constituency.

Mrs. Affo-Torffey sailed through the vetting process on Monday, April 3. She informed her supporters of the outcome in a tweet that evening.

"I have successfully been vetted to contest in the parliamentary primaries of the National Democratic Congress in the Jomoro Constituency.

“Thank you all for your support and prayers! I will continue to deliver and provide for my constituents upon victory! We appreciate our Heavenly Father for a successful vetting. NUMBER ONE ( #1 ) on the ballot,” she tweeted.

The vetting was conducted by the NDC's National Vetting Committee ahead of the party’s internal elections scheduled for May 13, 2023.

Dorcas Affo-Toffey is a Ghanaian politician who was elected as the National Democratic Congress parliamentary candidate for the Jomoro Constituency in August 2019.

She emerged as the winner with 1,324 votes representing 87.4% whilst the other two candidates, Akatia Kwaidoo and Nda Blay Armah, polled 188 representing 12.4%, and 4 representing 0.2% respectively.

In the 2020 parliamentary elections, Affo-Toffey contested and won the Jomoro Constituency seat after polling 24,356 votes representing 55.5%.

She defeated the incumbent Member of Parliament Paul Essien of the New Patriotic Party who had 19,889 votes representing 44.95.

Since 7 January 2021, she has been one of the 40 women and the only one from the Western Region in the 8th Parliament.

On 7 January 2021, Affo-Toffey was sworn in as the Member of Parliament representing the Jomoro Constituency.

She serves as a member on the Gender and Children Committee and the Lands and Forestry Committee of Parliament.

In her maiden address on the floor of parliament on 24 March 2021, she urged the government to reopen land borders which had been closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic to boost economic activities.

However, after winning the 2020 Parliamentary election, Affo-Toffey was accused of holding a dual citizenship by Joshua Emuah Kofie, a resident of Nuba-Mpataba in her constituency.

A court case was then instituted against her challenging her citizenship where the verdict later went in her favour.
