Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for the North Tongu constituency, is perplexed after Prophet Isaac Owusu Bempah, the leader of the Glorious Word Ministries revealed that he told lies to cover up challenges with the national cathedral project.

He responded by asking if the self-proclaimed man of God should admit guilt for his unwavering support for President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo for all these years.

“Confession time?” the NDC legislator wrote in response to the news on his Facebook page today Monday, August 1, spotted by Modernghana News.

In a phone interview with Accra-based Okay FM monitored by Modernghana News, Prophet Owusu Bempah admitted that he frequently fabricates stories when people approach him about the National Cathedral projects.

“People just call and insult me over the Cathedral meanwhile I'm not part. A number can just call and insult me that I'm foolish but I know nothing about it.

“Sometimes, you call me about the Cathedral and I lie to defend them but I'm not part. I was defending them. If they invite me [to the presidency], I will honour it but I can't go without their invite," he confessed.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, like many Ghanaians, has criticized the national project, calling it unnecessary in light of the country's current economic difficulties.

He expressed disappointment in Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta after he read the Mid-Year Budget Review in Parliament on Monday, July 25 for failing to reconcile monies he (Ablakwa) believed were illegally spent on the project.

"Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta did not say a word in the Mid-Year Review about his unconstitutional withdrawals of some GHS200million from the Consolidated Fund for the infamous National Cathedral project.

"He also made absolutely no effort to address the many illegalities and controversies that have dogged the US$400million project which his boss, President Akufo-Addo, describes as his priority of priorities," Okudzeto Ablakwa posted on his Facebook page.

The outspoken MP added, "How long will government keep running away from accountability and what is the fate of the stalled project after so many structures including a diplomatic property, a modern luxury apartment complex, judges' bungalows, Scholarship Secretariat, Passport Office, Judicial Training Institute and an IT firm have all been demolished with many awaiting compensation?"
